Winemaking
The production methods used to make this experimental cuvée, born with the 1986 vintage are still kept secret.
Produced with grapes from the same soil as Les Varennes du Grand Clos, it is not just the vinification that makes it so distinctive. Grapes from very young vines are used, and maturation is generally shorter; but what really makes the difference is its unique style.
This experiment should produce all the typicity of "pre-grafted" Cabernet Franc, but there is a risk, however, of phylloxera reappearing...
The Varennes Franc de Pied is only produced in the vintages we deem truly worthy of bearing the label "réservée".

Tasting advice
All the character of the Varennes are here, but its higher level of acidity keeps it fresher than the grafted cuvée.
5 or 6 years in the bottle is the ideal,
with 10-year ageing potential.
