Clos du Chêne Vert 1996

Clos du Chêne Vert (Chinon red wine)
Description

In 96, as with each year, this very particular wine from this clos (or vineyard), nestled on the Haute Olive slope of the town of Chinon, boasts a garnet robe with shimmers of ruby, aromas of marshmallow, fennel and clove, giving us a glimpse of what will become, over time, a rather rare bouquet.
It will be in two to three years that the fennel and clove will start to give way to underbrush and musk, finishing with frankincense and truffles.
Dated April 8, 1997
Tasting notes

Evolving more rapidly than La Dioterie.
One hour of breathing time to reveal its fine aromatic palette - red fruit, blackcurrant bud, together with notes of tobacco and undergrowth.
Dated September 16, 2006
Tasting advice

Drink after breathing.
Comment on the vintage and the 1996 harvest

A comparison made between the 1996 and 1976 rainfall and sunshine curves, despite slightly lower temperatures, showed a great similarity.
Harvests were spread over three weeks, with only 10 cutting days, in warm, dry weather (not a single drop of rain!).
With superb robes, ranging from the very pronounced, brilliant pink of a full, almost fleshy Rosé, to the dark reds typical of great vintages.
All shades of ruby and purple through to the deepest crimson; a very fresh nose that will come into its own very soon; acidities in the mouth accompanied by fine tannins: the sum total of these qualities, the reserve of great years only, points to a truly great vintage.
