Clos de la Dioterie 1998

Clos de la Dioterie (Chinon red wine) |
 |
Description

The robe is pure, elegant and intense ruby, with hints of smoke and meat on the nose.
The mouth is fleshy and strong. Very fine tannins lead on to animal, fur with a touch of graphite, although it is the jammy red fruit flavours that dominate. The length of the finish is impressive.
Everything about this wine says wait. Several years will be necessary before it will begin to reveal its secrets.

Comment on the vintage and the
1998 harvest

The unsettled climate of 1998 nevertheless fashioned a surprisingly balanced and measured vintage.
From 6 to 19 October, close to 70 people participated with panache in what were difficult harvests indeed!
Meticulous sorting ensured that only healthy and sufficiently ripe grapes made it into the vat (harvest between 10.5° and 12.5°C), much hard work rewarded in kind by fine tannins, elegance and great maturity, the main qualities of this vintage.
