    ○ Data Sheet

The real complexity of this vintage from old vines is often only revealed after 5 or 6 years of cellaring, and it rarely reaches its peak before 10 years, sometimes much more.

Tournedos rossini, rib of beef with marrow, and even stronger game in the great vintages: steak of doe, wild boar stew...

        2017 vintage press :

Coup de Cœur - In Vino Veritas, 2020:
"It is located right next to the winery, overlooking the Varennes du Grand Clos: with 70-80 year old vines, this wine is a huge expression of its north-east facing, strongly chalky clay terroir with all its chewiness, intense mineral freshness and depth. It is the last parcel to be harvested each year. A wine to wait a few years.

        Vintage 2016 press :

        17,5 / 20 - Bettane Desseauve - Guide 2020

        16,5 /20 - RVF - Guide 2020

16,5 / 20 - RVF - "100 Cuvées qui racontent la Loire", 2020 : "This mythical clos with its clay-rich claclaire soil on the left bank of the Vienne was made famous by its mythical owner Charles Joguet at the end of the 1950s. The Genet family has taken up the challenge with this colourful Chinon made from 80 year old vines. With an intense concentration of fruit, structured by a silky breeding, it is promised to be long-lived. "17,5 / 20 - Le Figaro, 2019 : "The elegant and supple structure of the Dioterie can be found in this vintage. The nose, in addition to the berries, is dominated by its delicate floral side. The mouth is very dynamic. A success and a style that is in tune with the times.

94 / 100 - Wine Enthusiast, 2019 : "Old vines from a single vineyard next to the producer's winery have made a rich and dense wine. Powerful tannins march with the ripe, perfumed black fruits and strongly mineral acidity. This wine will take time to mature"

        Press vintage 2015 :

        17 / 20 - RVF - Guide 2019:
"Coup de Cœur Clos de la Dioterie 2015
Behind a reduction at the opening, the liquorice nuances of this clay-limestone hillside arrive quietly on a matter enveloped by the breeding. At the beginning of its life, still closed, it should be left in peace for 5 years. "

        18 / 20 - Michel Bettane - Bettane Desseauve - In Magnum, 2019 :
"Charles Joguet's emblematic clos, in Sazilly, with very old vines of more than 80 years and a small part regularly renewed free-standing. Hèlas, barely two hectares there too.
A marvel: if we had to define the ideal Chinon, this would be it. A floral refinement worthy of a grand cru pinot noir and a supple grain of tannin perfectly integrated into the texture. Long, with a real bounce in the mouth, an exceptional wine."

        93 / 100 - Wine Spectator, 2019 :
"Aromas of iron and cedar introduce this complex and graceful red, with a silky texture and great harmony overall. Flavors of blackberry and tobacco mingle at the core, while sage and rose notes add to the charm. Very long and multilayered, this should be long-lived. Drink now through 2029."

        18,5 / 20 - Le Figaro, 2018 :
"This organically grown chinon exults in ripe berries, cocoa and tonka bean. Its texture is remarkable for the extreme finesse of its grain, wrapped in a concentrated and caressing matter that gives it a charismatic presence in the mouth. Very open, it is easier to drink than other vintages from the Dioterie, a famous small 2 hectare vineyard with octogenarian vines that flourish on a very rich limestone soil. We still want to wait a few more years, and we can imagine it becoming more complex with deep notes of truffle and undergrowth."

93 / 100 - Wine Enthusiast, 2019 : "The domaine's oldest vines have produced a rich, concentrated wine packed with all the smoky, red-fruit flavors of ripe Cabernet Franc. It is still firm, but the structure has opened into a generous ripeness that suggests the wine will be ready to drink from 2021."

        2014 vintage press:

17,5 / 20 - RVF - Guide 2017 : "Tasted before bottling, this powerful wine, admirably profiled, has difficulty to get rid of a certain silence: its density and depth of matter, the intensity of its fresh and sappy fruit leave no doubt as to its enormous potential"

20 Minutes - Coup de Cœur, 2017 : "A Chinon of the terroir and of black fruits. It will no doubt reveal itself in five or ten years, but it is already very pleasant. Here, the fine work of vinification and maturation reveals the terroir: density on the nose with notes of black fruits, a very balanced palate with a remarkable grain of tannin and touch. A great bottle from a great estate to rediscover."

92 / 100 - Wine Spectator, 2018 : "Solid, with a broad, fleshy feel to the mix of smoldering bay leaf, tobacco and warm dark olive notes that meld steadily with a core of gently steeped red currant and damson plum fruit. Approachable now."

Vin Québec, 2018: "The 2014 Clos de la Dioterie is also from a small parcel (2.1 ha), but from very old vines of over 80 years. It is vinified and aged like the Chêne Vert, usually 25 months, 18 of which in oak. Also ruby, but lighter than the Chêne Vert, it is aromatically a little more expressive, but very similar in style. The body is medium, brighter and fruitier, but also well balanced. The finish is juicy and a little more fruity. Same ageing potential.

"4* / 5 - Le Devoir - 2018, CA : "Clos de la Dioterie 2014 All the grace and synthesis of a beautiful Burgundy pinot noir summarised here with delicacy and precision. A sublime expression of Cabernet Franc (10+)"

        2012 vintage press :

16 / 20 - Michel Bettane - Bettane Desseauve - En Magnum 2019 : "Charles Joguet's emblematic clos, in Sazilly, with very old vines of more than 80 years and a small part regularly renewed free-standing. The nose is classic, elegant, with hints of violet. Refined body, perfectly adapted to the material, long, clean. Can still develop."

17 / 20 - Le Figaro, 2019 : "A wine of extreme refinement, coated and juicy. The black berries accompany the spices and mineral notes. A cuvée to be discovered absolutely, ready to drink but which will be able to age for several more years."

        17 / 20 - Bettane Desseauve - Guide 2015

17 / 20 - RVF - Guide 2015 :" Clos de la Dioterie 2012 is slender, subtle in its flavours, slender: to be forgotten in the cellar".

        2011 vintage press:

        16 / 20 - Michel Bettane - Bettane Desseauve - En Magnum 2019 :
"Charles Joguet's emblematic clos, in Sazilly, with very old vines of more than 80 years and a small part regularly renewed free-standing. Hèlas, barely two hectares here too.

An open nose but with roots (iris, bulb), which is characteristic of the beautiful limestone soils. Evolves into black truffle, but the Cabernet bounces back on the palate with a return of red pepper, almost paprika, which will please the connoisseurs."

        18 / 20 - Le Figaro, 2019 /
"La Dioterie, a famous little two-hectare vineyard with octogenarian Cabernet Franc vines that thrive on very rich limestone soil, produces this very elegant cuvee, with mingled notes of dark berries, which is beginning to take on a tertiary profile (the aromas of the wine's ageing) oriented towards truffle and undergrowth."

Le Rouge & le Blanc, 2013:
"We salute the elegance, charm and solidity of this taut, restrained wine with fat, voluminous tannins."

        17,5 / 20 - RVF - Guide 2014 :
"(...) Clos de la Dioterie, the most complete in 2011 with its magnificent structure and depth. These last two wines will have to wait in the cellar for at least 5 or 6 years."
"A magnificent expression of Cabernet Franc, with a sumptuous depth and structure that will ensure exemplary ageing. The estate is in great shape. Drink it between 2020 and 2035."

        18 / 20 - Bettane Desseauve - Guide 2014 :
"Is La Dioterie even more complete than Clos du Chêne Vert this year? This is a recurring debate at the estate that we like to try and settle, but without a definitive answer. Will it be the case this year? It would seem so, but the question deserves to be asked again, and we are preparing for it.

        2010 vintage press :

        17,5 / 20 - Michel Bettane - Bettane Desseauve - In Magnum, 2019 :
"Charles Joguet's emblematic clos, in Sazilly, with very old vines of more than 80 years and a small part regularly renewed free of foot. Hèlas, barely two hectares here too.

A complete, fleshy wine, with an expression that goes towards the south and the great terroirs of the right bank of Bordeaux, without the make-up of new wood, with great continuity in the mouth on tobacco and cedar. Great future."

        93 / 100 - Wine Enthusiast, 2013 :
"With vineyards on the south bank of the Vienne river, facing Chinon, the Charles Joguet style is firm and tannic, with a need for aging. This wine is proof, big, structured, very firm and concentrated. Tannins dominate now, but the fruit is all there, a panoply of ripe blackberries, impressively rich and succulent. Age this wine for five years and more"

Le Rouge & le Blanc, 2013:
"A slightly "colder" wine than the previous one (Clos du Chêne Vert) but more taut and dense with integrated and fat tannins. On the nose, notes of roots and tubers evolving towards truffles and black fruit. On the palate, a ripe, fresh and saline material, finishing on smoky, liquorice and mentholated notes. In short, a certain class."

        17 / 20 - Bettane Desseauve - Guide 2013 :
"Although still dominated by wood, it has the roundness that the Clos du Chêne Vert lacks for the moment. Nevertheless, it should be cellared and forgotten. Let's bet that the current complexity of the finish should not lie in the long run."

        17 / 20 - RVF - Guide 2013 :
"A little more backward, finely regulated, the Clos de la Dioterie is set for a very long ageing."

        Vines

The Clos de la Dioterie is located right next to the winery, overlooking the Varennes du Grand Clos.

This historic vineyard of just over two hectares is astonishing for the age of its vines (70 to 80 years old), but also for its highly calcareous clay soil and its north-east exposure, ideal for perfect ripening.

These very old vines with low yields (30 hl/ha) are the object of particularly attentive care.

        Vinification

This is the last parcel to be harvested, as it faces north-east: we are looking for the most complete maturity possible for this old emblematic vine.

At great sacrifice, we bring the concentrate of this vineyard to the neighbouring cellar. Careful selection of grapes in the vineyard, multiple treatments during vatting, meticulous monitoring of the vinification process, assessment of the length of maceration: everything about this cuvée calls for caution if we want to obtain a result that lives up to its reputation.

All the techniques developed for Clos du Chêne Vert are adapted to Clos de la Dioterie according to the requirements of each vintage. The maturing process is also carried out in the same way.

When the final blend is made, the discreet but great complexity of this rare wine is already apparent, and will be fully expressed after many years in the cellar.

        Press review

        Vinous - Rebecca Gibb MW - 2021

        Clos de la Dioterie 2018 - 94/100

"The 2018 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie is richly fruity, reflecting the warmth of the vintage, and soft and mouth-filling despite not being heavy. There's baked fruit here, suggesting a combination of black currant, red cherry, cedar and spice. The tannins are structured and textured, showing this wine's intent, but it's all very well handled - those tannins are both resolved and incredibly chalky. This is a lengthy, serious wine with sinew. The vintage might be evident in the high alcohol and warm profile, but the class of the site is also indisputable."

        Clos de la Dioterie 2017 - 95/100

"The 2017 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie retains its great depth of colour and feels incredibly young compared with many other 2017s from the region. Demonstrating excellent concentration and full body, it is round and without any angles. There's plenty of stuffing here, yet it remains elegant and coats the mouth with a delightfully fine tannic veil. You could drink it now, but that would be infanticide. If you like classy Right Bank wines that use Cabernet Franc as their base, you'll be pleasantly surprised at this wine.

Wine Advocate - Robert Parker 2021

        Clos de la Dioterie 2017 - 94/100

"The nose is deep, intense and perfectly ripe as well as elegant and seamless, and it exhibits ripe, dark berry aromas and remarkably fine limestone finesse with bloody meat notes. On the palate, this is a thoroughly vital red with great finesse and intensity and all the tributes you may expect from an icon wine of the appellation. The finish is vital, fresh, lemony, salty and highly stimulating if not mouthwatering but also stringent and tensioned, with perfect fruit ripeness and a gorgeous tannin/acidity structure. Impressive."

        Clos de la Dioterie 2016 - 95/100

"This wine tricks you into thinking its going to be all elegant but it sneaks up on you with its power. There's lots of silkiness from this top cuvee from Joguet, from vines sitting on clay-limestone. Intense concentration (20hl/ha) of fruit including raspberries, redcurrant, smoke, pencil lead. Huge length with a wonderful scent that lingers long. Excellent and impressive.
