        Clos du Chêne Vert

A mythical Cru de la Haute Olive, this vertiginous hillside embodies the nobility of Chinon de garde.

        From vine to cellar

Located in the town of Chinon on the right bank of the Vienne, this two-hectare, steeply sloping, south-west-facing vineyard is planted on clay and silica-limestone terroir. One of the oldest crus in the appellation, it owes its name to the monumental holm oak that towers over it, the regrowth of a tree planted by the monks of Bourgueil in the 12th century. Average yield: 30 hl/ha. First plot harvested thanks to its exceptional exposure. Maceration and vatting in wooden vats since 2008, with pumping over and punching down to extract body and color. Malolactic fermentation sometimes on marc for additional roundness. Extended aging of 12 to 15 months in barrels of 1 to 3 wines. A very long-ageing cuvee, revealing its originality after several years.

        MILLENNIUM 2017

"With its south-westerly orientation, steep slope and shallow yellow clay and silico-limestone terroir that crumbles more easily offers riper fruit, a fuller palate but also, substance, elegance, great ageing potential too. This is one of Chinon's mythical sites, located in the town itself, at Haute Olive, on the right bank of the Vienne."

        MILLENNIUM 2016

93 / 100 - "A single vineyard in the city of Chinon is the source for this wine. Wholly owned by this producer, the vineyard has produced an intensely perfumed wine, showing the potential of the vineyard and of ripe Cabernet Franc. It is smoky, layered with tannins as well as blackberry fruits finished with acidity. All these elements will allow the wine to age. Drink from 2022."

        MILLENNIUM 2015

16,5 / 20 - A change of bank and we find ourselves on the Haute Olive, in the heart of Chinon's historic vineyards, with a south-westerly exposure and two steeply sloping hectares. It has to be said that this ultra-classic terroir produces a very great wine if you know how to wait, with an intensity and uprightness that make it a superior cru, the like of which there are less than ten in the whole of the Loire.Very great aromatic finesse, worthy of a pinot noir, between the purest red fruit and a floral quality so different from Varennes. Remarkable ageing.

        MILLESIME 2015

92/100 - Solid, with a broad, fleshy feel to the mix of smoldering bay leaf, tobacco and warm dark olive notes that meld steadily with a core of gently steeped red currant and damson plum fruit. Approachable now

        Le Figaro

        MILLESIME 2014

"A wine as taut as a bow, with great power on the palate. A few more years will allow it to soften and mellow. If enjoyed now, it should be accompanied by a rich red meat to cut through the tannic structure."

        Bettane Desseauve

        MILLENNIUM 2012

"We change banks and find ourselves on the Haute Olive, in the heart of Chinon's historic vineyards, facing south-west, on two steeply sloping hectares. It has to be said that this ultra-classic terroir produces a very great wine if you know how to wait, with an intensity and uprightness that make it a superior cru, the likes of which there are fewer than ten in the whole of the Loire.
Same suppleness as Les Varennes du grand Clos in this vintage, but with more body and authority, charm and generosity. A lovely wine to start drinking."
