Les Varennes du Grand Clos
An emblematic parcel planted between 1962 and 1976, Les Varennes du Grand Clos embodies the finesse and complexity of the Sazilly terroir.
From vine to cellar
Located at the foot of the gravelly terrace on the left bank of the Vienne in Sazilly, these four and a half hectares of vines planted between 1962 and 1976 flourish on a unique silico-clay and silico-limestone terroir. Average yield 40 hl/ha.
Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 10 days, a minimum 4-week vatting period and vinification at below 21°C with frequent pumping-over and punching-down reveal the full complexity of this cuvée. Blending of free-run and press wines for malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aged for 15 to 16 months in partially renewed French oak barrels (new barrels for 4 wines), followed by 6 months' maturation in vats before bottling. Long-ageing wines that assert their finesse and elegance right from their youth.
